Workin’ it out

July 21st, 2009

My training has been sort of haphazard since I signed up for the half, then one day I checked out runningonfaith.net and the event counter read 4 months 25 days until race day. How did that happen?? When I signed up it was still 6 months away!! You know what that means? I had to stop planning my running workouts and actually do them. Such a simple thing, but lots easier said than done. Life can get in the way if you let it, and I decided that I was not going to let it anymore. Also, the cooler weather the last few days has definitely helped my motivation; thanks God!

Geaux Team!

Thank you!

July’s heat is upon us…

July 8th, 2009

So far, training is going ok, it’s been too hot to do much running, but I’ve been trying to at least get out and walk, plus do a few laps in the pool (running in the pool is harder than you think, that water resistance can kick your booty!) I think for the rest of this month and next the order of the day will be 7 p.m. run/walks, maybe even a little later, since it’s so hot, humid, and miserable during the day.

In fundraising news; by this weekend, my goal is to have letters mailed out and emails sent. It’s a pretty big list of people that will be getting letters from me, and I figured out that if each of them gives just $10, I will exceed my goal. I’m praying that each person can give at least that amount, but if not, I’d be happy with them praying for us and a successful race in December!

Keep on keepin’ on…

June 16th, 2009

Last week I didn’t get the workouts in that I wanted, but that’s ok; Saturday was my husband’s birthday (Happy Birthday Bob!), and Sunday was just a lazy day, which we all need from time to time. This week, however, training is back on! Today is a 2.5 mile run and can you believe I’m actually looking forward to it? When I joined this team, someone mentioned that endorphins are addictive! Also, I’m doing Tae Bo for my cross training, and that always puts me in a good mood.

On another note, I’ve got my St. Jude page setup, with the URL in my sig line in my email, and am getting ready to go through the fundraising packet on their website (I still haven’t received anything in the mail, anyone else?).

Here’s to a great race in December!

Off to a so-so start, but I *did* start!

June 2nd, 2009

Since I wanted to take it easy for my first “run”, I decided to only do 2 miles, and only run what I felt like running. It turned out to be about 3 minutes (max) total of running out of about 30 minutes total. Somewhat discouraging, but more than I did yesterday! I know after the next couple of weeks the ratio of walk-to-run will be much better, just glad I got out and officially started.

Geaux Team!!

Getting ready!

May 29th, 2009

Wow, I can’t believe I actually signed up for a half-marathon. 13.1 miles. This will be a great personal challenge since my workout habits are not the most consistent lol. However, since I have something to work toward, I think that will change very soon! There’s also the added satisfaction of helping a great organization. Thanks, Weesie, for getting me into this! I can’t wait to meet everybody else on the team, this seems like a fun group.
